List of the safest Hungarian villages where no crimes happened last year revealed

The Law Enforcement Secretary of the Hungarian government shared the list and map of the safest Hungarian villages in a post published today. They found 186 small villages where no crimes were reported last year. Where would you move?

Here are the safest Hungarian villages

They called the 186 localities “islands of freedom” since crimes remained “unknown” in 2024. That is 5.9% of the Hungarian settlements. The settlements are located in 11 counties, meaning there are 8 counties where no settlements can be found without crime. Most (42) are in Baranya County, the second one is in Zala County (33), and the third is in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County (27).

They did not include an explanation for the numbers. In this article, we would like to note that all the settlements on the list are small villages with a population below 250. The most populous one is Mánd in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, but most of them are even below 100, and that is only the registered number of people. It may happen that there are fewer inhabitants because the younger generations work in the cities or abroad.

We would add another viewpoint. As you can see on the map below, no settlement from the Great Hungarian Plains is on the list. This is probably because, in that region, due to historical reasons, there aren’t any small villages. Such types of settlements are typically in the hilly regions of the country, like Zala, Baranya, Vas, Nógrád, Somogy, and Veszprém counties.
