Drunken Hungarian man attacks playing children with knife in Vienna courtyard

A shocking incident unfolded in Vienna’s Landstraße district on Thursday evening when a 48-year-old Hungarian man allegedly attempted to stab a group of children playing in a residential courtyard. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Heavily intoxicated man attacks children
According to Austrian and Hungarian media, the man, who was heavily intoxicated (reportedly with a blood alcohol level of 3.6‰), became enraged by the noise of the children. Witnesses say he began yelling at them, demanding they go home. The situation quickly escalated when he pulled out a folding knife and began lunging in the children’s direction.
Thankfully, the children managed to flee the scene in time. Hearing their screams, several parents rushed out and immediately contacted the police. One witness courageously followed the suspect and saw him discard the weapon in nearby bushes.
Police arrested the man
The Vienna police responded swiftly and arrested the man near the scene. The knife was recovered and secured by authorities. He remains in police custody while the investigation continues to determine the exact motive and circumstances of the incident.
