Shocking assassination plot: Man tried to hire a killer for Hungary’s PM Orbán

A man has been detained for allegedly plotting a murder-for-hire scheme against Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the National Bureau of Investigation said on Wednesday, adding that the suspect’s arrest has been initiated.
The man registered on a website running on a server abroad in order to find a person who would be willing to kill the prime minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, for a financial reward, the statement said.
He allegedly made a public statement on the website in July 2025 saying that he was willing to pay in Hungarian forint or any other currency to find someone who, as he put it, was “the best contract killer”, and willing to kill the Hungarian prime minister, the statement added.
The man was identified with the help of counter-terrorism force TEK, and after being apprehended, he gave a full confession.
