Violent clashes between Swedish and Hungarian fans in Győr during Conference League match – PHOTOS, VIDEOS

The return leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier between Győri ETO FC and AIK Stockholm was tainted by violent incidents on Thursday evening, as Swedish and Hungarian ultras clashed both in the city centre and inside the stadium.

According to 24.hu, around 1,000 Swedish supporters travelled to Győr for the match, with tensions flaring even before their arrival at the ETO Park stadium. Police had to intervene on the train carrying AIK fans, and later deployed in large numbers at Győr railway station, even using drones to monitor the situation, Kisalföld.hu writes.

Trouble first broke out in Jedlik Ányos Street, when a group of AIK ultras confronted ETO fans who had gathered at Széchenyi Square. Witnesses say the Swedish supporters threw signs and pieces of street furniture at the home crowd. The heavy police presence managed to prevent more serious violence during the march to the stadium, but the atmosphere remained tense.

Once inside the venue, the situation escalated again. Reports indicate that around 200 Swedish fans, unable to secure tickets for the away sector, ended up in a section reserved for home supporters. This led to direct confrontations between the two groups, with Győr ultras seizing flags and shirts from their Swedish rivals.

Despite the off-pitch chaos, the match itself was a thrilling contest. Győr started with a one-goal deficit from the first leg (2–1) but turned the tie around with a 2–0 home victory, securing a spot in the final qualifying round of the Conference League.
