Budapest Classics Film Marathon featuring David Cronenberg, Atom Egoyan, and Robert Lantos

The programme packs in Károly Makk’s immortal works, epochal movies by Hollywood maverick Joe Eszterhas, works by world-famous producer Robert Lantos, films noir heavy with the whiff of cigarettes, and great pieces from Asian female artists, all projected at top venues around the capital. The festival tuning takes place in Müpa Budapest on 14 September, nfi.hu wrote.

28 December 1895. This was the date of the very first public motion picture screening by the Lumière brothers in the Grand Café, Paris. Consequently, it marked the birth of cinema. The magic of movies has lost nothing of its allure since then.

Open Archives offers a fascinating glimpse

There are six films, including Basic Instinct and Flashdance, by the tough, taboo-smashing, go-it-alone screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, who introduced new rules of the game into Hollywood. A spotlight is also directed onto the oeuvre of world-famous producer Robert Lantos with films by directors David Cronenberg and Atom Egoyan, among others. The selection Ingrid & Roberto – Journey to Italy presents – via their joint films – the converging, and then diverging, lives and careers of celebrated Hollywood star Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini, legendary Italian director. The selection Light & Shadow comprises film noir gems.

Open Archives offers a fascinating glimpse into the work of the world’s film archives and collections, from where we receive the very latest restorations and thrilling curiosities. Screenings with live music guarantee something unique for all fans of silent motion pictures.
