National, Budapest early morning heat records broken

The national and the Budapest early morning daily heat records were broken on Saturday, the national weather service said.
HungaroMet said on its website on Sunday that the early morning temperature was 25.3 C on János Hill in Budapest on Saturday, a record high for the capital and Hungary.
The previous early morning national record of 24.5 C was recorded in Szeged in 2024 and the Budapest record was 24.1 C recorded at János Hill last year.
HungaroMet noted that on Saturday it was a tropical night in the capital and several settlements, meaning the minimum temperature was above 20.0 C.

At the same time, a record temperature of 38.7 °C was also recorded in Budapest (Újpest), which also broke the previous record set in 1948.
The highest temperature ever recorded was on 26 July 2025, when 41.3 degrees Celsius was measured in Sarkad-Malomfok in Békés County. This daily heat record exceeded the previous record of 40.4 degrees Celsius measured in Szerep in 1921 by 0.9 degrees Celsius and was only 0.6 degrees Celsius below the country’s absolute highest temperature record of 41.9 degrees Celsius, measured in Kiskunhalas on 20 July 2007. This 2025 record was a significant event in Hungary’s weather history.

Big question in this story: When did the “records” begin?
Okay, confession: my cousin dared me to try out something new online since I was always whining about being bored in Canada. I searched a bit, clicked a random link, and ended up at Hard Rock Casino. The first few minutes I was already cursing at how close I came to winning, but somehow that frustration felt good. Then I got pulled into a chat with strangers who were just as salty, and we all started roasting each other mid-game. Weirdly enough, that’s what got me hooked.
