2 Hungarian astronauts awarded Hungarian Order of Saint Stephen

Astronauts Bertalan Farkas and Tibor Kapu were awarded the Hungarian Order of Saint Stephen by President Tamás Sulyok on the occasion of the August 20 national holiday on Wednesday.

Sulyok told the ceremonial event that the Hungarian Order of Saint Stephen was the highest state honour bestowed by the president of Hungary annually, and this year “we would like to communicate to two excellent Hungarian astronauts that with their performance they have not only written their names in the history of space research and world science but also in the hearts of Hungarians.”

“Just like the success of our athletes and the world sensations of our inventors fill all Hungarians with pride and joy, the fantastic space missions of today’s recipients are deservedly respected by millions of Hungarians,” he added.

The ceremony was attended by, among others, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Speaker of Parliament László Kövér, and former President János Áder.
