Illegal migrants’ sexual assault against Hungarian women sparks outrage in Sicily, PM Orbán calls for rebellion

In Sicily, there has been widespread outrage over an attack on young Hungarian women carried out by illegal immigrants of Moroccan origin. Vincenzo Figuccia, a local representative of the Lega party led by Italy’s deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini, has called for the introduction of chemical castration for the most serious violent crimes, such as sexual assault. Viktor Orbán recently commented on these events and called for a “rebellion”.
Hungarian women deceived, drugged, assaulted in Sicily
Figuccia urged the regional council to take “multi-faceted action,” including setting up a permanent committee to combat violence against women, introducing chemical castration for the gravest offences, ensuring genuine support for victims, delivering the harshest possible punishments to perpetrators, and increasing patrols involving both citizens and soldiers. In his appeal to the regional council, Figuccia highlighted that two young Hungarian girls were deceived, drugged, and assaulted by three men of Moroccan descent, the Hungarian News Agency said.
The Lega politician expressed his solidarity and sympathy with the victims, stating that the incident had shaken the community of Paterno, near Catania. As a representative of Sicily’s regional council, responsible for security and crime prevention for the island’s nearly five million inhabitants, Figuccia stressed: “security must not become a mere slogan; it is a right we must guarantee through practical measures.”

“Let us protect our own, let us defend our land,” Vincenzo Figuccia concluded, calling security in Sicily an urgent priority.
According to official sources, the daily newspaper La Sicilia reported on Friday about the sexual assault on the two Hungarian tourists that took place in Paterno. The three Moroccan men, who had no residence permits, were arrested, and the Catania court placed them in pre-trial detention on charges including gang rape.

Castration for perpetrators?
For over 20 years, the Lega party has advocated for introducing chemical castration in criminal law for severe sexual offences. In the 2022 elections, the Lega gained 6.8% of the vote, and Salvini has continued to serve as deputy prime minister in the Meloni government. Although the party’s tough rhetoric made little impact in Sicily, it did strengthen between 2018 and 2022. Still, in the regional election three years ago, they only managed to secure a few percent of the vote, winning five seats in the 70-member regional assembly, yet remaining part of the governing coalition.

Orbán: Attack on Hungarian women proof that ‘EC migration policy is unacceptable’
Hungarian premier Viktor Orbán, in a post on X on Tuesday, thanked Matteo Salvini, Italy’s deputy prime minister, “for taking a stand” in the case of “another heinous sexual assault by migrants in Europe: this time, two young Hungarian women were victimised in Catania.”

“The migration policy of the European Commission is unacceptable. Instead of stopping migration, they are busy with legal wrangling. Their failed policy led to this attack. This sexual assault weighs on the conscience of the Brussels bureaucrats,” Orbán said.
“This cannot go on any longer! Rebellion, rebellion, rebellion,” he added.

Chemical castration–or, preferably, physical, without anesthesia–is a great idea, but make it is followed by a swift deportation.
