Orbán highlights why investors should choose Hungary
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, speaking at the opening ceremony of BMW’s state-of-the-art factory in Debrecen, underlined that Hungary offers a stable business environment, where “rules don’t change from one month to the next.” He emphasised that the government rewards work and investment rather than punishing them, allowing businesses to reinvest profits.
After seven years of anticipation, BMW has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art factory in Debrecen, which Orbán hailed as a milestone for Hungary’s economy. The facility, described as Europe’s most modern electric vehicle plant, represents an investment of over EUR 2 billion and is expected to create around 3,000 new jobs in the region.
The Prime Minister also said that Hungary’s resources would not be spent on wars but on strengthening the domestic economy and industry, pointing to Debrecen as a prime example, Növekedés writes.
Calling the factory a “jewel of the Hungarian economy,” the PM stressed that Debrecen’s place on the global automotive map is the result of years of work, favourable local talent, and what he described as “Europe’s best tax system”.
BMW’s Debrecen plant will produce only fully electric models with zero emissions, employing digital and AI-driven production methods, according to Index. Orbán summed up the project as a “21st-century green investment” and declared: “Let’s get used to it: Hungarian BMW.”
To say that Hungary offers a stable business environment where rules don’t change from one month to the next is a big lie among the many lies Orban tells. BMW may have set up a factory to take advantage of lower wages in Hungary but many companies have suffered from Orban’s “mafia methods” and it has discouraged foreign investment.
