New ambassador is leading the British Embassy in Budapest – photos

H.E. Mr. Justin McKenzie Smith, the United Kingdom’s new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary presented his credentials to H.E. Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary at Sándor Palace. In line with diplomatic tradition, he then laid a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Heroes’ Square.

Commenting on taking up his service in Hungary, Justin McKenzie Smith said: „I am deeply honoured to begin my posting as British Ambassador to Hungary, and I’m truly grateful for the warm welcome I have received. I look forward to strengthening the friendship between our two countries and working closely with our Hungarian partners. It is a privilege to be here and I’m eager to get started.”

According to Blikk, Justin McKenzie Smith has been learning Hungarian for a year to be able to speak our mother tongue fluently. In addition, he is proficient in Georgian, Spanish, and Russian. Before, he served in Moscow (second secretary), New York (first secretary), Mexico City (Director of Trade & Investment and Deputy Head of Mission), and Tbilisi. Click and read his curriculum.

His predecessor, Paul Fox, stepped down from the role following his retirement.
