Peace in business? Russians and Americans unite to supply Paks with nuclear fuel

The Hungarian government, while maintaining relations with Russian suppliers, is also beginning negotiations on the purchase of American nuclear fuel to securely serve increasing domestic nuclear energy capacity, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced in Washington on Wednesday.
Hungary can meet growing electricity demand in the cheapest, most stable, most reliable and most environmentally friendly way possible by expanding nuclear capacity, Szijjártó said following a meeting with James Danly, the deputy secretary of energy and with Westinghouse’s vice president for government relations.

“The service life of the four reactor blocks currently operating at the Paks nuclear power plant are being extended, and in addition, we will build two new nuclear blocks in Paks. This guarantees Hungary’s safe, stable, reliable energy supply, and maintaining the results of the regulated utilities price scheme for households,” Szijjártó said according to a statement by his ministry.
Szijjártó said the start of negotiations is a very important milestone in the development of Hungarian-American cooperation.
