Drunken street fight ends in the death of a man in Hungarian city
A deadly altercation unfolded in Miskolc on the night of 29 November, leaving a 59-year-old man dead after a street fight with a younger acquaintance.
Police responded shortly after 10 PM to a report from local residents on Feszty Árpád Street, where they found the victim lying on the road with visible fresh injuries. Officers immediately began a search of the surrounding area and, within a few hundred metres, stopped and identified a 19-year-old man who admitted to having assaulted the victim.
The suspect had been drinking with the victim
During an early morning interrogation, the suspect told authorities that he had been drinking with the victim earlier that evening. A dispute arose between the two, which escalated into a physical fight, resulting in the older man’s death.
The Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Police Department have taken the 19-year-old into custody on suspicion of homicide. Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
Second fatal incident over the weekend
This incident marks the second fatal street fight in Hungary over the weekend. Also on Saturday night, a similar case occurred in Budapest, where a disagreement at a nightclub ended with one man fatally striking another with a single blow.
Police continue to urge citizens to report violent incidents promptly to prevent further tragedies.
Young guys have egos they need to preserve and if women are involved their egos are even more fragile. You don’t have to go looking for trouble. It may come to you. Always try to deescalate in a friendly way. It doesn’t matter if you are correct and the other party is incorrect. The worst in these fights is head injury from a fall. I always tell my son that bad things happen after midnight so its better not to stay out late and if you are out late use a taxi to get home. I recently found myself in a bar where a large man was getting too pushy with a woman we were with and the next day I realized I could easily have been one of those people in the wrong place at the wrong time.
