Rural thermal spa close to the Austrian, Slovenian border in Western Hungary undergoes major upgrade

The wellness and thermal spa in Lenti (SW Hungary) will undergo a HUF 2.6bn energy-saving upgrade using funds from the European Union, Public Administration and Rural Development Minister Tibor Navracsics said Friday.

Navracsics said Lenti’s tourist appeal is gradually increasing. A four-star hotel was recently built, a new medical centre was developed, and the current upgrade will allow the complex to operate even more economically.

Mayor László Horváth said they are largely switching to thermal water-based heating at the spa instead of gas and are also installing a solar power plant.

Lenti Spa and Wellness managing director Péter Katz said the project will wind up by the end of 2027, by which time a third of total electricity consumption will be provided by solar energy.
