Péter Szijjártó called Wang Yi his friend, noting that this would be the 24th time they meet over the past 11.5 years.

Hungary is the first European country Wang Yi will visit in 2026, which clearly shows the importance China attaches to cooperation between the two countries, Szijjártó said.

Hungary, the Hungarian economy and Hungarian families have benefited greatly from the agreement signed with President Xi Jinping during his last visit to Hungary, he said. That comprehensive strategic partnership will now be reviewed, he said.

The biggest investor

Chinese companies made the most investments in Hungary in 2025, and last year Hungary was the number one European destination for Chinese investments, Szijjártó said. Companies bring cutting-edge technology to Hungary, guarantee secure livelihoods, and create state-of-the-art workplaces, so it is in Hungary’s interest to further develop Hungarian-Chinese economic and trade cooperation.

While the world is reeling from one crisis after another, Hungarian-Chinese economic cooperation is helping to strengthen the Hungarian economy, he added. “It is important that the Chinese also strengthen the peace camp; together with the Chinese, we are members of the Friends of Peace group. We greatly appreciate China’s peace efforts, and we are fighting together to finally bring peace to our neighbour, Ukraine,” he said.
