Tragedy: Another ethnic Hungarian killed in Ukraine war, says Hungarian foreign minister

Another ethnic Hungarian has lost his life in the war in Ukraine, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced on Thursday, stressing once again the urgent need to bring the conflict to an end.

Speaking in Budapest, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade said the latest death underlines why a swift conclusion to the war is essential.

45-year-old father from Transcarpathia dies

According to a statement from the ministry, Szijjártó reported that a 45-year-old man from the Bátyú district in Transcarpathia was killed. He leaves behind a wife and child who are now waiting in vain for his return home.

“As long as the war continues, we must sadly expect tragedies like this,” Szijjártó said.

Government calls on Brussels to back peace efforts

The minister argued that the time has come to end the fighting and called on Brussels and European leaders to stop what he described as undermining American peace initiatives.

“Brussels and European leaders should finally stop obstructing US peace efforts and, like Hungary, support initiatives aimed at bringing the war to an end,” he stated.

Hungary maintains pro-peace stance

Szijjártó reaffirmed that Hungary remains firmly on the side of peace and will continue to support diplomatic solutions.

“As long as the war does not end, we can expect more tragic news like this. Hungary continues to stand for peace, supporting American peace efforts by all available means and helping to achieve a ceasefire and a peace agreement in our neighbourhood,” he added.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time something like this happens:
