PM Orbán demands immediate end to Russian energy sanctions

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Thursday warned that Europe is heading toward a severe economic crisis and urged the immediate lifting of sanctions on Russian energy.

Orbán demands end to Russian santions

“Europe is heading toward one of the most severe economic crises in its history. The world is facing a serious energy crisis. Europe is in grave danger,” Orbán said on social media platform X.

“The only way out is to lift the sanctions imposed on Russian energy. Immediately. We must think not about Putin, but about our own country and our peoples. Instead of warmongering, love and save your country, Donald!” he added.

The Hungarian PM’s remarks came in response to Polish President Donald Tusk, who had accused the Hungarian leader of undermining European unity and playing into Russia’s strategic interests, according to Anadolu.

“The threat of NATO’s break-up, easing sanctions on Russia, a massive energy crisis in Europe, halting aid for Ukraine and blocking the loan for Kyiv by Orbán – it all looks like Putin’s dream plan,” Tusk said in a separate post.

Reason behind the energy crisis

The global energy crisis deepened as the US and Israel have maintained an air offensive on Iran since 28 February, killing so far over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.

  1. The crisis, if that is how it ought be termed, is completely self made – or, that is to say, has been created by the policies of Bruxelles that, in governing what it’s benefactors, The Western Elite, has adopted one policy after another to the detriment of the member states whose interests is claims to be advancing.

The policies that led Europe to this place will end – one way or the other.

People will only tolerate but so much malice and negligence from the leaders, before the reaction converts to something more often seen in the days before the advent of social welfare and security benefits.

  2. Why hasn’t “Man Of Peace” Orban demanded an end to Trump’s war on Iran? That is the cause of the present situation. Ending Russian sanctions makes Russia stronger which prolongs the war in Ukraine which I guess to Orban’s benefit can give him an excuse to keep ruling by decree .

    • Indeed, the energy crisis can be wholly and solely traced back to the door of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

  3. Here in the UK we would rather experience fuel rationing and a shortage of gas than to import crude, gas or refined products from Russia. I think 90% of the population is united in this resolute determination. We are in the relatively luxurious position of having a measure of North Sea oil and gas of our own while also importing the same from Norway, further natural gas from the Netherlands, LNG from the US and crude oil from a variety of sources via seaborne routes. Russia used to be a key supplier of diesel and kerosene but that’s no longer the case. Other European countries are in a less privileged position, partly because of their inability to weather higher prices, but it’s a supply issue rather than a logistical one as pipelines permit seaborne supplies to access customers anywhere in Europe.
