Who will cheat in the Hungarian general election on Sunday? Here’s what the latest poll found

General elections will be held in Hungary this Sunday, deciding whether PM Orbán can remain in power for another four years after being prime minister since 2010, or whether Péter Magyar, the ex-husband of former Justice Minister Judit Varga, will become Hungary’s new prime minister. A new poll shows what Hungarians think about who will win and who might cheat.

Voters think PM Orbán’s Fidesz will cheat on the elections

According to the latest poll by Medián, one of Hungary’s most accurate pollsters, more people think Péter Magyar will win the election than PM Orbán (47% vs 35%). Interestingly, more undecided voters think Orbán will win (35% vs 33%). Meanwhile, 15% of them think neither of the two parties will secure a majority, Telex reported.

49% of voters believe Fidesz will commit election fraud, while only 36% think the opposite. By contrast, just 19% think the opposition Tisza party will do so.

Russia will try to influence the elections

48% of voters agree that Russia will try to influence the outcome of the Hungarian election. That figure is only 26%, 24%, and 24% in the case of Ukraine, the United States, and EU bodies, respectively. Most Tisza voters think Russia will meddle, while Fidesz voters believe Ukraine and the European Union will do so—as if there were two different universes in Hungary when it comes to politics.

90% of people see that tensions between Ukraine and Hungary have intensified, but Orbán’s supporters believe Kyiv and Zelenskyy are to blame. Tisza voters think the Hungarian government is the cause of the deterioration in bilateral relations between the two countries.

Medián surveyed a representative sample of 1,000 people by telephone between 23 and 26 March. The poll is representative of age, gender, education, and place of residence.
