The most popular Hungarian films of 2016

Origo.hu has compiled the most popular Hungarian films of 2016 so far.

The Horsearcher, a documentary about the life and work of Lajos Kassai, the central figure in the revival of horse archery in Hungary, was released on January 21. Since then, more than 80,000 people have seen it, making it the most popular film of 2016 to date.

Second on the list is András Kern’s comedy-drama Think of Me with 28,379 sold tickets, followed by Attila Till’s film about a wheelchair gang entitled Kills on Wheels with 22,149 views, and the sci-fi thriller Loop with 14,762 views, both of which are still on in Hungarian cinemas. Next on the list is the internationally acclaimed mystery-drama Demimonde, followed by the award winning nature documentary The Kunság, and the recently released drama Lily Lane. The combined view count of these six films is 75,553, which is still 5,000 views short of the performance of The Horsearcher.

7. Lily Lane (Liliomösvény) – 940 views

Last year’s outstanding films include Liza, the Fox-Fairy and Argo 2, as well as Son of Saul, which was re-released for this year’s Oscar season, and has been seen by over 250,000 people.
