Spectacular flash mob on Gellért Hill

What if several hundred people used their flashes to light up Gellért Hill for a few minutes? The BudaFlash gathering, nicknamed the Night of a Thousand Lights, is a flash mob in the most literal sense of the word, since participants will be using their flashes to make the hill look like a giant sparkler, index.hu writes.

“Gellért Hill is the heart of Budapest. At night, the flashes of tourists up on the Citadel can be seen from the other side of the Danube. This inspired us to light up the entire hill for a little while,” the organisers said.

According to the BudaFlash website, anyone can take part, just be up on Gellért Hill on June 23, at 20:45 with a phone or a camera, and take some photos of the city with your flash on. The best places are the paths overlooking the city, between St. Gellért Square and the Citadella. Find a clear spot on the path or go up to a lookout so your flash can be seen from the other side of the river. The organisers encourage people to keep using their flashes for 5-10 minutes.

If you would like to watch only, the areas between Elizabeth and Petőfi bridges, near Corvinus University and the Bálna are the most recommended.

Flash mobs are seemingly spontaneous gatherings usually organised on the internet and accomplished by a group of strangers, who come together for this one occasion. The aim of flash mobs is to astonish and entertain as well as to display the power of social media in forming relationships.
