New migrant facility to open in Kiskunhalas on Friday
Budapest, June 30 (MTI) – A temporary migrant reception centre will open in Kiskunhalas in southern Hungary on Friday.
According to a statement from the interior ministry, the new centre, for 200 people, have been set up in a former barracks building, which already houses a detention facility for illegal entrants.
The statement noted that the two facilities will be separated, and migrants at the new, open centre will be allowed to leave the institution during the day.
In its statement, the ministry said that the pressure of migration was continued, and over 22,000 asylum applications had been filed in Hungary since the beginning of the year.
Meanwhile, the local mayor asked for increased police presence to maintain public order and security because of the “unexpected setting up of an open reception facility”.
Róbert Fülöp noted that the local police chief had assured him that increased patrols would be held near the reception centre, in the town’s residential areas and in public areas. He said he had also asked the local civil guards’ assistance and residents to help the authorities.
