Prosecutor revokes Zsolnay inventory seizure
Budapest, July 6 (MTI) – A prosecutor in southwest Hungary has revoked a search and seizure warrant ordered by tax office NAV on the inventory of Hungarian porcelain maker Zsolnay.
Éva Kardos, the company’s attorney, told the Wednesday issue of Népszava that the Szekszárd district prosecutor had declared the seizure of Zsolnay’s inventory unwarranted and the recent raid on the company illegal after her complaint filed against NAV’s investigation was examined.
The prosecutor’s decision cannot be appealed and therefore the tax office has had to lift the inventory seizure, Kardos said.
Zsolnay’s owner has complained that his company is “under attack” by interests that want to take over his business.
Zsolnay tiles and ornaments adorn many landmark art nouveau buildings in Hungary.
Officials of the local council of Pécs, which owns a minority stake in Zsolnay, have said the business is on the verge of bankruptcy and have already set up a company to take over its operation.
