Foreign minister voices commitment to fighting for Hungarians in UK
Budapest, July 12 (MTI) – The Hungarian government has a “firm position” in the interest of the “tens of thousands” of Hungarians employed in the UK, the foreign minister said in an interview broadcast on public Kossuth Rádio on Tuesday morning.
It is important that the freedoms of trade and investment are maintained and that rights of Hungarians in the UK are not violated, Péter Szijjártó said.
Concerning the resignation of David Cameron, the British prime minister, Szijjártó said it was a “personal loss” because of the two governments’ shared endeavours to increase national competencies within the European Union.
In another interview broadcast on commercial TV2, Szijjártó said that the planned NATO command unit to be set up next year at Szekesfehervar, in central Hungary, would have a staff of 20 Hungarian soldiers and 20 from other NATO countries.
Concerning NATO and Russia, Szijjártó said that a strategy of “deterrence and dialogue at the same time” was needed. Both NATO and Hungary have an “explicit interest” in having a strategic dialogue with Russia, developing into cooperation based on mutual trust, he added.
