All NATO allies can count on US support, says Ader
Warsaw, June 4 (MTI) – US President Barack Obama, meeting the heads of state of ten central and eastern European countries at a working lunch in Warsaw, underlined that all NATO member countries can count on the United States’ support, President Janos Ader told Hungarian reporters late on Tuesday.
Ader said Obama’s statement that no one can take away from these nations what has been built over the past 25 years had convinced him that Hungarian citizens made the right decision when opting to join NATO in the November 1997 referendum.
The talks focused on the Ukrainian crisis, safe energy supply and the future of NATO, he said.
Ader said the Visegrad countries were all of the view that the US military presence should be beefed up in Europe.
Ader noted that Hungary had failed to meet its obligations concerning the NATO budget. For this reason, the government has decided that from 2016 it will make efforts to gradually reach the average of member states.
