Jobbik: Here is the government of “election racism”

Budapest, September 19 (MTI) – The opposition Jobbik party on Monday called on the government to reconsider plans to spend 91 billion forints (EUR 296m) on Roma integration in the next four years instead of the formerly planned 8 billion forints.

Party spokesman István Apáti described the plan as “concealed vote buying”. He told a press conference that while working people are expected to pay taxes and loan instalments, those that cannot or do not want to work and integrate into society are given continual allowances, new homes and revamps. He criticised the plan to make solar panels available to be installed on houses in Roma settlements.

Apáti accused the government of “election racism”, stating that the fate of a community is important to the government only as long as it yields supporting votes.

He said that making the National Roma Council a mandatory cooperating partner in the programme was a guarantee that unlawful acts and irregularities will be committed.
