Recirquel takes stages around the world

Recirquel, a Hungarian Contemporary Circus Company combines dance, music and circus art into a passionate and unique performance, and brings ‘Paris du Nuit’ to audiences in different parts of the world.

The Budapest-based Contemporary Circus Company was established in 2012 by director and choreographer Bence Vági. During that short time they have already performed in several French cities, The Netherlands and Colombia. But Hungarians also have had the opportunity of seeing them at the Sziget Festival or in Müpa Budapest.

Aol.co.uk shares the article of Euronews, and writes about how ‘Paris du Nuit’, the third feature-length production of the company “takes audiences into the cafes, brothels and dark streets of 1930’s Paris [with jazz musicians and singers, dancers and circus artists]”. The director, Vági was particularly inspired by the works of Brassai, a Hungarian-born photographer, who lived in Paris.

Brassai’s photos “offered a peep at what was going on behind the scenes”, therefore, when the company was creating their “youthful [and] cabaret-style performance”, they focused on showing both the glamorous and the darker side of cabarets. Also, live music and getting close to the audience were significant factors in creating the atmosphere.

As a result, part of the audience sits on the stage amazed while the talented members of Recirquel evoke the exciting nightlife of the French capital. Humour also appears in the show, yet it is a risky topic as, according to Áron Pintér, one of the members of the company, humour “depends a lot on the public [and] on their mood, on the day or the night, the weather, the general situation in the country [and these all have an impact on each other]”.

Currently, Recirquel performs ‘Paris du Nuit’ for audiences in Santiago de Chile (Chile) as part of their world tour which also includes other shows and the enchanting of spectators in San Sebastian (Spain) and Montreal (Canada). However, the tour does not stop them from bringing the contemporary circus to Hungarian stages as well: they perform for several nights at Müpa in Budapest this year as well.

The company also invites audiences on rather spiritual journeys, as aside the passionate and entertaining ‘Paris du Nuit’ they perform ‘Non Solus’, a two-participant show about finding one’s other half, and ‘The Naked Clown’, a production “where the layers covering and protecting reality disappear [as the Clown enters the unknown]” as well. Also, ‘Night Circus’ is performed, during which the “[artists are on a shared journey around the hidden aspects of their own personalities]”.
