Global terrorism, crime require global law enforcement ed, says CEPOL director in Budapest
Budapest, October 5 (MTI) – A globalisation of terrorism and crime calls for the globalisation of law enforcement training and education, the executive director of the EU Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) said at an international conference in Budapest on Wednesday.
Global terrorism and crime necessitate increased cooperation among the various law enforcement agencies around the world, Ferenc Bánfi said in his opening address at the Global Trends In Law Enforcement Training and Education – CEPOL 2016 conference.
Globalised law enforcement training and education must however be conducted in a differentiated manner, so as to avoid hurting various national security interests, Bánfi said.
He noted a proposal aimed at setting up a global network of law enforcement experts and a global databank to be accessed by law enforcement agencies and bodies around the world.
Organised by CEPOL and the National University of Public Service, the three-day conference will feature 75 lectures and panel discussions and is being attended by more than 200 participants from around the world.
