Hungarian economy minister holds talks in Kazakhstan

Budapest, October 17 (MTI) – Hungarian Economy Minister Mihály Varga met Kazakh Prime Minister Bykytzhan Sagintayev for talks in Astana on Monday, his ministry said.

Varga also held talks with his Kazakh counterpart Kuandyk Bishimbayev and Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev, the ministry said in a statement.

Varga attended a meeting of the Hungarian-Kazakh Intergovernmental Committee for economic cooperation in Astana where he stressed that Kazakhstan is Hungary’s most important strategic partner in Central Asia. Varga and his partners agreed that the recently established Hungarian-Kazakh Investment Fund and the Hungarian-Kazakh Strategic Council holding its founding session later in the day will play a significant role in strengthening bilateral relations, the ministry said.

Varga said the two countries can cooperate in the areas of farming, energy, construction, engineering, vehicle manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, health care and tourism.

He noted that with the aim of boosting bilateral trade, Hungary’s Eximbank and its credit insurer have opened a 233 million dollar credit line to support partnerships between Hungarian and Kazakh companies.

Varga is travelling with a delegation of 30 Hungarian business leaders.
