Europe’s biggest nativity scene is in Hungary

The Hungarian village of Vörs has built a nativity scene in the church each November for the past 68 years, and the tradition continues as volunteers construct the biblical scene once again, somogytv.hu reports.

68 years ago, the nativity scene of Vörs measured only one square metre, but as the decades passed, the construction kept expanding until it reached its current size at 50 square metres. The church cannot accommodate a structure any larger than this, but from time to time, changes are made to the way the scene is decorated.

The nativity is built by local volunteers and it will be finished by the first Sunday of Advent, November 27.

Today, the structure in Vörs is the biggest church nativity scene in Europe. During Advent the small village welcomes visitors from all over the country as well as abroad. Due to its popularity, the structure can be visited until the beginning of February.
