Two-hour strike held at Daimler’s Hungary car factory
Budapest, November 24 (MTI) – Sixty workers held a two-hour strike early on Thursday at German carmaker Daimler’s factory in Kecskemét (C Hungary) following unsuccessful wage negotiations.
Zoltan László of the Federation of Metalworkers’ Unions said his federation held another round of wage negotiations with the factory’s management on Wednesday because they consider the partnership between the factory and the Free Union of Engineers and Technicians as invalid.
The Metalworkers’ Unions maintain their demand for a 15 percent wage rise and want to sign a one-year agreement; the negotiations are expected to continue.
In response, the factory issued a statement confirming that its management had signed a two-year wage agreement with the Free Union of Engineers and Technicians. This agreement was not signed by the metalworkers union, the factory’s management said, adding that they are ready to hold further negotiations.
