Govt plans transporting nuclear fuel by air
Budapest, July 29 (MTI) – The Hungarian government is drafting a plan on delivering fuel to the Paks nuclear plant by plane, daily Nepszabadsag said on Tuesday.
The aim to transport the fuel to Hungary’s sole nuclear plant by plane rather than by rail through Ukraine is to ensure continuous supplies, the paper said, citing unnamed sources.
Szabolcs Hullan, Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority’s deputy director general for nuclear safety, confirming the paper’s information, said the authority had not yet received an application for a license but preparations for issuing one were under way, he said. Transporting nuclear fuel by air is technically feasible, Hullan said, noting precedents in Slovakia and Romania.
