Hans Zimmer: “I feel at home in Hungary”

Hans Zimmer is currently preparing for his second tour, which will arrive in Budapest early next summer. The Oscar-winning German composer lives in Los Angeles, but he feels at home in Europe and he thinks fondly of Hungary as well, he told the MTI.

Following the success of his first ever European tour this year, Hans Zimmer is going on tour again next year. Hollywood’s most popular composer will be accompanied by his 15-member studio band, a symphonic orchestra and a choir, as well as surprise guest musicians.

“For 40 years, I didn’t perform in front of an audience because I get stage fright. But this can’t be an excuse. I can’t hide, and the time has come to face the audience. It’s a big adventure, and while I was terribly afraid for the first time, I’ve given up being cautious,” he said.

The European leg of the tour kicks off on May 16 in Helsinki, and they will perform in Budapest, in the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena on June 1. The composer has fond memories of their previous concert in Budapest in May, and he is happy to be coming back to Hungary. “I have wonderful friends there, I feel really connected to the city, and the audience is incredible as well.

Those who live there may not even realise it, but I think Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in the world,” he said.

Hans Zimmer, who plays guitar at the concerts, began to think about going on tour after two sold-out performances in London in 2014. “I spend all my life sitting in a room, writing music. Going outside and seeing the world is simply incredible,” the composer said.
