Hungary’s hotel capacity expected to expand by 2,000 rooms by 2018
Budapest (MTI) – About 2,000 rooms could be added to the total capacity of hotels in Hungary in the next two years, consultancy firm KPMG said in a fresh analysis published on Wednesday.
Hungary’s hotel capacity would increase even without the needs of the upcoming major sports competitions and the planned 5,000-seat convention centre taken into account, it said.
The majority of Budapest hotels to be built in the next two years will be big 100-to-200 room facilities as against the recent trend focusing on smaller ones in 2015 and 2016. Plans are afoot to build six five-star hotels in Budapest and one in the countryside, KPMG said.
In 2015 twenty-two new hotels with 944 rooms started to operate, mainly in the countryside. In January-September this year 14 hotels with 866 rooms opened in the country, including three with 136 rooms in Budapest.
Guest nights have been growing steadily now almost for six years. Occupancy rates have been high this year at the most popular sites, exceeding 80 percent in Budapest and the eastern basin of Lake Balaton.
