Katinka Hosszú chosen as the second best sportswoman of 2016
According to m4sport.hu, the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) voted for the best sportswomen of 2016. The American gymnast, Simone Biles was chosen as the ultimate best, but she is closely followed by Hungarian swimming sensation Katinka Hosszú.
In the men’s field, Usain Bolt finished in the first place for the sixth time, thus setting a record and passing one of the world’s most successful Olympians, Michael Phelps. Bolt, who tripled in Rio, recieved more than twice as much points than Phelps, who returned home from Brazil with five gold and one silver medal. They are followed by the European Champion and Champions League winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
The competition was a bit more tense in the women’s field, where the three time Olympic Champion and one time Olympic silver medallist Katinka Hosszú lagged behind the four time Olympic Champion Simone Biles with only 52 points. They are followed by American tennis star Serena Williams.
The Premier League winner Leicester City was chosen as the best team of the year, while the press was served the most efficiently during Euro2016.
382 journalists of 110 countries took part in the voting.
AIPS Sportsman of the Year:
- Usain Bolt (Jamaican, athletics) 1149 points
- Michael Phelps (American, swimming) 490 points
- Cristiano Ronaldo (Portuguese, football) 387 points
AIPS Sportswoman of the Year:
- Simone Biles (American, gymnastics) 524 points
- Katinka Hosszú (Hungarian, swimming) 472 points
- Serena Williams (American, tennis) 361 points
