Counter-terrorism report: Al-Qaeda significant threat to United States

The al-Qaeda terror network continues to pose a serious threat to the United States, according to a new report from the National Counterterrorism Centre (NCTC), which attributes the danger in part to conditions allegedly “left behind by the Biden administration”.

Public urged to remain vigilant

The NCTC document serves both as guidance and warning: it provides tools to local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies to help prevent attacks by the terror group, while also advising the public to exercise caution. The report highlights that under President Donald Trump’s leadership, the centre coordinated with multiple agencies to monitor, verify, and share intelligence: efforts aimed at neutralising threats and enhancing national security.

It further stated that while shifts in political and international landscapes may heighten risks, ties between the intelligence community and law enforcement have never been stronger. Thanks to President Trump’s policies, the report claims, the US is better prepared than ever to respond to threats swiftly, directly, and in a coordinated fashion.

Individual linked to al-Qaeda identified

Joe Kent, Director of the NCTC, said: “Pursuing our enemies relentlessly means we must identify them precisely and understand how they operate. Constant vigilance includes securing our borders and informing our communities. Our knowledge and leadership ensure the safety of America.”

In addition to intelligence and law enforcement agencies, the authorities also called on first responders and the general public to stay alert to threats posed by al-Qaeda. While the risk remains, the NCTC and its partners continue to work around the clock to thwart attacks and protect American lives, the report added.

The agency cited a recent case as an example: during a follow-up investigation, the NCTC identified an individual with ties to al-Qaeda who had entered the United States as an asylum seeker using the U.S. Border Patrol’s CBP One mobile app. The suspect has since been taken into custody, and removal proceedings are underway.
