The 2020 world university ranking by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has just been revealed. Amazingly, altogether six Hungarian universities made it to the list, with the University of Szeged performing the best (501-510th place).
According to Eduline, there was little change at the top of the list compared to the previous years. For instance, QS once again chose the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as the best university in the world.
The latest ranking by QS was published Tuesday evening. When it comes to Hungarian universities, six of them made the list.
The University of Szeged ranked the best, in 501-510th place. The University of Debrecen comes next, in 601-650th place. Both Eötvös Loránd University and the University of Pécs ranked in 651-700th place. The Budapest University of Technology and Economics, as well as the Corvinus University of Budapest, secured their position in 801-1000th place.
The Quacquarelli Symonds ranking considers several aspects when compiling the list, such as the proportion of students and faculty members who are international, the reputation of the institution or the citations per faculty.
From neighbouring countries, Austrian universities performed the best.
A total of five Austrian institutions made it to the top 500 universities, with the University of Vienna securing the 154th place.
From Slovakia, three universities were featured while from Romania, two universities made the list. From Ukraine, six institutions were listed, with the best result achieved by the National University of Kharkiv in 491st place. Slovenia had two universities on the list while both Croatia and Serbia had one university each featured.
The top ten places went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), ETH Zurich, UCL, Imperial College London and the University of Chicago, too. This means that no new university made it to the top 10 compared to last year; there have only been slight changes. In 11th place, two Singapore universities are featured, while a Chinese university is also in the top 20.
