Budapest hosts powerful Peruvian photography exhibition on Amazonian identity

Budapest’s 13th district will host a unique cultural event this April as the Embassy of Peru unveils a special photography exhibition exploring the life and identity of the Shipibo-Konibo people of the Amazon. Through powerful and intimate portraits by photographer David Díaz, the exhibition offers visitors a rare glimpse into an Indigenous culture shaped by deep traditions, memory, and resilience, while also celebrating international cooperation and cultural exchange.
The Embassy of Peru in Hungary, in cooperation with the Municipality of Budapest’s 13th District, will inaugurate the photography exhibition “Shipibo‑Konibo: Portraits of My Blood” on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, at 17:30, at the RaM – Radnóti Miklós Művelődési Központ, as part of the official anniversary celebrations of the district, highlighting the role of culture and international cooperation in commemorating this milestone.
The inaugural ceremony is open to the public and will include remarks by H.E. Edgard Pérez Alván, Ambassador of Peru to Hungary, and by Dr. József Tóth, Mayor of Budapest’s 13th District, as well as a traditional dance performance, “Ani Sheati”, by the Peruvian dance group Sonqoy Tusuy.
The exhibition presents the work of Peruvian photographer David Díaz, offering a powerful visual exploration of the Shipibo‑Konibo people, an Indigenous community of the Peruvian Amazon. Through intimate portraits, the exhibition reflects themes of identity, memory, tradition, and cultural resilience.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 14 April to 28 May 2026, during the institution’s regular opening hours. Admission is free.
