Ambulance crashes and overturns in Hungarian city, causes major chaos

A collision involving an ambulance caused significant traffic disruption in Eger on Sunday afternoon, after the vehicle overturned at a busy intersection.

Ambulance overturns in downtown Eger

The incident occurred at the junction of Vörösmarty Street and Szvorényi Street, where the ambulance was involved in a crash before tipping onto its side, Heol reported. According to the Hungarian Disaster Management Service, two vehicles collided on Árpád Street, between Szvorényi Street and Pacsirta Street, and one of them, the ambulance, overturned as a result.

Emergency crews, including multiple ambulances and a professional firefighting unit, attended the scene. Firefighters carried out power isolation on the damaged vehicle, while police officers directed traffic past the partially closed road section.

Traffic gridlock on Route 25

The accident led to severe congestion on Route 25, with drivers heading towards the M3 motorway facing lane closures. Authorities urged motorists to exercise patience and caution when travelling through the area.

Investigation underway

The Heves County Police Department stated that the exact circumstances of the accident remained unclear and were under investigation. Unconfirmed reports by Heol suggested that a patient had been inside the ambulance at the time of the crash.
