Another big investment – Lake Balaton’s water level to be raised
According to napi.hu, the General Directorate of Water Management announced a public purchase for the reconstruction of the Sió Channel, which needs to be modernised due to the rise of Lake Balaton’s body of water.
The tender was published in the Public Purchase Report and it names the EU’s Environmental and Energy Efficiency Operative Programme as the financial resource of the project.
Sió’s modernisation is needed due to the fact that Lake Balaton’s previous water level of maximum 110 centimetres increased to 120 centimetres with the summer reserve, which means a 60 million cubic metres of excess water. The reconstruction of the canalage is necessary for the sustainability of the water system.
The channel’s length is 120.8 kilometres. Besides the reconstruction of the channel, the winner of the tender needs to design the modernisation of the draining water-gate, the boating water-gate and the Dunakiliti weir.
The requestor ordered the tenderer to have a reference, and also to have an income of at least net 200 million forints in the last three years, out of which at least 150 million forints should have come from the designing of flood-prevention investments.
