Asian hotel chain opens luxury hotel on site of legendary Budapest hotel

Mandarin Oriental, the globally renowned chain of high-end hotels, is set to manage Budapest’s iconic Gellért Hotel.

Owned by the BDPST Group, the Gellért Hotel will undergo a comprehensive renovation from 2024 to 2027, adhering to strict historic preservation standards.

The agreement with the hotel chain voted Best Luxury Hotel Brand by CNBC is a huge milestone. It will make Budapest even more attractive to those interested in luxury and culture.

Restoration of the original interiors

The Gellért Hotel boasts 143 guest rooms, including 38 suites, according to preliminary plans. The sophisticated and timeless ambiance will be created by London-based interior design studio Alexander Waterworth Interiors Ltd.

The Gellért Hotel’s original interiors fell victim to wartime destruction. The project aims to meticulously reconstruct the four most iconic spaces – the Lobby, the Danube Room, the Music Roo, and the Tapestry Room – restoring them to their former splendour.

The parterre between the Gellért Hotel and the Mandarin Oriental holds historical and cultural significance. The Gellért Hotel contributes to Budapest’s tourist appeal, while Mandarin Oriental brings exceptional elegance and long decades of experience as a globally recognised brand, index.hu reports.

  1. Too bad these people didn’t get the W hotel -the interior has been so glitzed, it looks out of place in such a great building.

  2. It’s too much now. Should not let foreign moneys own historic buildings, airport ir utilities. Some countries do not allow it. We don’t need a Dubai in the old city either.m
