Austrian man caught in Hungary with bags of cannabis after failing to pay for fuel – photos
An Austrian driver, aged 37, was caught under unusual circumstances in Kapuvár when he was unable to pay for his fuel at a petrol station. Police officers were called to the scene, became suspicious, and later discovered 14 kilograms of cannabis hidden in his car.

According to the Hungarian police, on the evening of Monday, 6 October, staff at a petrol station on Győri Road alerted the authorities after the man was unable to settle his fuel bill. When officers arrived, they noticed that the Austrian man was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol. A breathalyser test was administered, which returned a positive result.
No valid licence, but 14 kg of cannabis
Further checks revealed that the driver did not hold a valid driving licence, as it had previously been revoked by Austrian authorities for driving under the influence. During a search of his vehicle, police found four rubbish bags in the boot, each with a capacity of 150 litres, containing a large quantity of green plant material. Subsequent examination confirmed that the total amount was 13.69 kilograms of cannabis.
The man was arrested on the spot and taken into custody. A drug test also returned a positive result for THC. The Kapuvár Police Department launched proceedings against him for possession of narcotics as well as driving while intoxicated and under the influence of drugs. He has been detained, and his arrest has been requested.
In their statement, the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Police Headquarters emphasised that the use of marijuana is not only harmful to health but also carries serious legal consequences. The drug impairs concentration and reaction time, increasing the risk of accidents.
