Budapest, October 30 (MTI) – Beekepers on Friday held a demonstration in Budapest against adulterated honey products on the market.
The demonstration was in support of a coinciding demonstration in Brussels where European beekeepers were calling attention to the negative effects of forgery, Laszlo Meszaros, the head of the Hungarian Beekeper Association, told a press conference. He urged help in the form of educating consumers about fake honey and clamping down on perpetrators.
The import of adulterated honey into the EU by tens of thousands of tons annually was damaging to their trade, the organisers of the demonstration in Brussels said in a statement. Unfortunately, EU regulations help mask the forgery by allowing that the origin on mixed honeys be labeled vaguely, the statement added.
