As winter sets in, ice skating becomes a favourite activity for many. Hungary offers numerous free skating opportunities in 2024, making it accessible for everyone to enjoy the thrill and charm of the ice. Travelo has made a list of the top locations where you can skate without spending a dime.
Free ice rinks in Budapest
Budapest boasts several free skating rinks across the city. As part of the Advent Óbudán event, two rinks are available: one at Fő tér and another at the community area of the Békásmegyer market. These rinks will operate from 1 December 2024 to mid-January 2025.
Mornings are reserved for local schools and kindergartens, but afternoons and weekends are open to everyone. Skate rentals are available for a fee—HUF 1,500 (EUR 3.6) per pair per hour for students and HUF 2,000 (EUR 4.9) for adults—while rink access remains free.
Another exciting option is at Szent István Square, part of the Advent Basilica event. Here, children under 12 can enjoy a dedicated free skating rink, available daily from 5 PM. Free skate rentals are also provided at this venue, making it an ideal spot for family outings.
