The best gyros spots in Budapest

Change language:
According to funzine.hu, the expressions of Greek gyros, Turkish döner kebab and Lebanese shawarma somehow interlock on the streets of Budapest. This is not a complete delusion, because the main ingredients are the same: meat, vegetables, sauce and pastry. Here come some of the best gyros/kebab/shawarma spots in the city.
Taverna Dionysus Budapest – 1056 Budapest, Belgrád Quay 16
“A dash of Greece on the coast of the Danube” is the slogan of this Greek restaurant. Dionysus lying on the Pest side is reminiscent of the Mediterranean country with its blue and white walls and open windows. Entering the place, you’re welcomed by an authentic atmosphere: thanks to the interior and the amazing smells, you immediately forget that you’re in Budapest. Even though the prices are quite high, the experience makes up for it. Besides gyros, they make divine Kotopoulo Saganaki, chicken breast cooked in a crockpot with ewe-cheese, olive oil and pilaf, and Horiatiko Bifteki, the incredible Greek cheese burger.

Szeráj – 1055 Budapest, Szent István Boulevard 13
Even though this is a Turkish fast food restaurant which serves döner kebab, the gyros toplist couldn’t be complete without it. The line is usually very long, which is mostly due to the affordable price, the big portion and the delicious flavours. It costs 750 Ft (~EUR 2.4), which is an amazing value for money. You should finish your meal with a pudding-like baked milk-rice.
