Hungary receives billions from the EU for new tourism and regional projects

European Union funds are arriving in Hungary, Tibor Navracsics, the minister of public administration and regional development, said on Tuesday.

In his speech at the handover ceremony for EU-funded tourism developments around Simontornya Castle, to the east of Lake Balaton, Navracsics said: “We hear self-proclaimed prophets and ambitious politicians claim every day they’ll bring EU funds back to Hungary … yet hardly a day goes by without our inaugurating one investment or another made possible by EU funds.”

Recently, another HUF 200 billion (EUR 504 million) package arrived from Brussels, enabling further developments, he said. “And so we are making steady progress.” From town to town, new EU-funded projects that contribute to Hungary’s strength and competitiveness are under way, he added.

  1. Don’t forget: A lot of these “billions” are Hungary’s own money that it paid into the E.U.’s budget.

The E.U. now oh-so “graciously” gives us some it back, tops it up a little, and then makes extensive and intrusive demands about where exactly ALL this money must go. Reduce citizens’ energy bills? NO!!! Build bicycle tracks that stand completely empty? Or set up “pride” demonstrations? YESSSS!!!

Is this REALLY such a great deal?!?

  2. Beautiful historical place that Simontornya Castle. Thank you EU for supporting its preservation so that tourists can still marvel its beauty in the future. And thanks for supporting for many other important tourism projects that help local Hungarians to sustainably grow businesses and increase jobs in the tourism sector.
