BREAKING NEWS – US Ambassador in Budapest has been summoned
Hungary’s government on Tuesday summoned the US ambassador over President Joe Biden’s recent remark on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the foreign minister said, insisting that “we are not obliged to take lies from anyone, even if that person is the President of the United States.”
The foreign ministry said in a statement that at the briefing held at a different diplomatic event, Péter Szijjártó was asked about Biden attributing to Orbán words that suggested the Hungarian prime minister didn’t think democracy worked.
“Since such a lie has been said in connection with the Hungarian prime minister, we summoned the ambassador of the United States to the ministry, who was here today,” Szijjártó said. “Deputy minister Levente Magyar received him, and we asked the ambassador to present the quote and the time and place where the prime minister allegedly made such a statement.”
“As such a statement was obviously not made, we could not get any meaningful answer,” the minister said.
He said that the US ambassador’s reference to the official US position that Hungary was “building a dictatorship” made it extremely difficult to further Hungarian-US relations, arguing that such a suggestion “is an offense not to the government, but to the country.”
Szijjártó said that the prime minister and the government were leading the country with a mandate received from Hungarian voters. “We won four general elections in a row, in which the people set for us the direction of governing and we are now executing this [task].”
“So this is a very serious offence we flatly reject … so we summoned the ambassador; and this kind of mindset of an American president, and the Democratic administration is a heavy burden on our bilateral relations,” the minister said.
Commenting on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s remark that the Hungarian government was “playing a very dangerous game” with Russia, Szijjártó said it was the war itself that was dangerous, as it leads to a loss of life and a risk of escalation.
“And we don’t want this war to spread any further, since we live right here in its neighbourhood, and if the war spreads further, we will be directly endangered by it,” Szijjártó said. “So we will continue to do everything in the interest of there being peace in our neighbouring country.”

The Biden administration is sending increasingly serious signals to the Hungarian government that they are interfering in the election of a partner country and trying to influence people. The Orbán cabinet, on the other hand, is using increasingly strong communication messages and supporting Trump’s re-election. Meanwhile, the Hungarian government has always said that no one from outside should interfere in Hungarian elections.
The US embassy in Budapest has not yet reacted, but congratulated Hungary on joining NATO 25 years ago:

Ten years ago Orbán spoke of his aim at building an illiberal democracy in Hungary. An illiberal democracy is not a true democracy, Who is the liar then?
Besides, Orbán openly supports Trump, i.e.a man who led his supporters to a quasi coup d’etat against a democraticalky elected president. If I were Biden I would definetely assume that Orbán does not like democracy unless the election’s winner is himself or one of his bully pals.
C’est dommage! Orban is like Rodney Dangerfield – “I got no respect.” Every Fidesz politician wants “mutual respect.” Why aren’t they getting respect from so many political leaders? It must be a great mystery.
Big, big mistake.
Hungary should summon itself over its own lies.
Orban has dealt in handed it out, “mouthed” out played “war games” with the European Union, and to recent time, with N.A.T.O. finally agreeing to Sweden’s acceptance in N.A.T.O being disgraced & humiliated that “spread” into the Putin “mob” – bought on by his “Creed” the Distillation of Democracy.
The “blindness” of the Orban Government, it’s “Puppets” – no larger than the Foreign Minister – Peter Szijjarto, in there non acceptance, though the are ALL players in it, the taken “U-turn” away from the aim the concept idea, establishing Hungary as a market economy, based on the Rule of Law and on private ownership, but instead having taken the “systematic” destruction of the fundamental institutions of DEMOCRACY.
Orbans ideology will “haunt him.”
The know strength of the Russian/China “partnerships” – take Orbans address to all Diplomats last week in Hungary – it muchly was built around the NEED of change, the new era and times, shape of Europe, that “challenged” again, as is Orbans “dogma” the on-going practice of Democracy, it’s need of Distillation in the changes needed especially, coming out of the European Union under it’s Laws of Membership under DEMOCRACY.
This “calling in” under summons, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Hungary, it will and SHOULD have gargantuan ramifications from not just the Biden Administration, but all country’s inclusive of Great Britain & Northern Ireland – the European Union & N.A,T, O. – all country’s Governed & Ruled under Democracy.
Orban “hands & shovels” it out and this is a humongous OPPORTUNITY to send it ALL back at Orban and his Government, that the pressurized place they as a Government, there on-going Financial & Economic “disintegration” of Hungary, they are SELF Destructing – making Hungary be “Shamed & Humiliated” by there Political Philosophy & Ideas added to by the Orban ideology, that is just CRUSHING Hungary.
I expect sooner than later Sanctions on Hungary from the U.S.A. that in “Strong” probability will be put in place in the Car Manufacturing Industry and “all” motor and “other” componentry manufactured produced in Hungary that is SHIPPED moved to the United States of America.
Orban “hands & shovels” it out but the United States of America will “laugh the loudest” – RIGHTFULLY.
The Japanese attack on the American Navel Fleet on America in 1941 – we know as Pearl Harbour, the Japanese Admiral – Isoroku Yamamoto – asked if it had been a successful mission answered :
” I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping GIANT and FILL him with a TERRIBLE resolve.”
Victor Mihaly. Orban / your Government, through your SUMMONS of the American Ambassador to Hungary – you in ALL probability have “awakened ” the United States of America that will witness on you & Hungary RAMIFICATIONS.
Pressman started his lies before he arrived in the country. The Hungarian government tolerated this scoundrel as long as it could. It is time to put Pressman out to pasture, the American pasture. There are little more than 8 months left of Biden’s term. According to the polls, President Trump will win.
Awaken a Sleeping Giant is not appropriate. Hungary to the best of my knowledge has not bombed anyone.
I have a hard time to understand anyone’s support of the Biden regime. A beautiful young woman, Laken Riley was murdered by a criminal illegal alien. During the State of the Union (yes, I listened to the whole thing) called the killer an illegal. This person was admitted into the country because of Biden’s open border policies. 3 days later Biden apologized, saying he regretted calling the murderer an illegal. Biden did not call the parents of Miss. Riley; Biden mispronounced the victim’s name and did not apologize for that. The conclusion is that Biden puts the feeling and welfare of illegals ahead of Americans (the correct word is illegal according to the Supreme Court).
Hungarians should be grateful for having a PM that puts the interests of the people of Hungary first.
As to not immediately approving Sweden’s entry, why should they; Sweden did nothing but slur Hungary and its people while totally ruining its country with illegals.
mariavontheresa never ceases to amaze the comments “it” contributes, from North America.
Orban just goes on humiliating and disgracing the name Hungary.
Thought commentator “Awaken a Sleeping Tiger” pretty “on the money.”
In any case Victor Mihaly. Orban – is BOMBING Hungary into smithereens, dare I say.
Senile Biden has sent his ideological minion as a finger to the Hungarians. Color revolution will not work because, unlike some of the comments here with Trump Derangement Syndrome, the Hungarian people see through the woke BS.
@mariavontheresa – my takeaway was that Mr. Biden and co at last were serious about negotiating and passing the Bipartisan Immigration Bill:

Mr. Lankford’s record is very conservative (Oklahoma for you) – and he stepped up to constructively draft this bill. I know “constructive” is a no-no these days in political circles, however it is the only way to actually move forward. Think of the Mr. and Mrs. No´s in your office or in a local club or association? A binary approach does not get you anywhere.
So. Does one want to score political points, or does one want to address a very clear issue? Remember – there are more potential Ms. Rileys out there, as long as no new measures are in place.

MvT, yes Laken is a terrible story. But it’s incorrect to say that crime is worse because of immigrants. Demonstrably untrue. Any thoughts on those who died because of the Jan 6 insurrection?
There is a reason the UK left the EU and the most successful country in Europe is not in the EU. How do people who live so close to Ukraine don’t understand how the US set up revolt to rid the twice elected leader and picked one to submit to its demands. Until Hungary sends troops and millions to Ukraine the left will not be happy until Orban is gone. These clowns have already spent 200 billion in Ukraine in just over 3 years – does anyone know how much that is and that it’s not the forit billions.. if trump does not get back in office the mess that been created by the Biden regime- you will be sending troops when all the young men in Ukraine are dead. The 3 other major conflicts it will be end for the US.
@Tm … I do not know how often you go to the UK, Brexit is hardly a success story. Quite the opposite. Ask any local, Northern Ireland, the Netherlands, France (the former finding that the politicians promises were all bunk – except for that elusive “Sovereignty”, and the latter three benefiting greatly from the mess that is still unfolding).
Not sure which “country outside the EU” you deem “the most successful”, because if this is Switzerland or Norway, you will find they make quite a (financial) contribution to be accorded certain EU benefits (without as much as a vote):

Dear Norbert, Republicans rejected the bill for a number of reasons. The bill raises the legal standard to pass initial asylum screenings, expedites the asylum process and funds additional detention space. It also compels the Homeland Security secretary to use an emergency authority to bar people from requesting asylum if officials record 5,000 encounters a day over seven consecutive days. But that’s not the same as accepting 5,000 people into the U.S. daily. The problem is the numbers.
Another problem was founding NGOs that will do everything to keep the illegal migration going.
The House passed HR2 which would fix the problem. Schumer refuse to put the bill to vote.
Furthermore, under President Trump, the number of illegals were less due to executive orders. Biden removed these executive orders on day one. Presently, all Biden has to do is enforce the existing immigration laws on the books.
There was a hearing on the Hill, FBI Director Wray’s statement contained that open border policy allowed terrorist to enter the country and hopes that they could defend against the danger of another 9/11.
I wonder at all commentators; how can you support regimes of US and EU that are interfering in the internal affairs of foreign countries and supporting foreign wars. Are you not happy to be citizens of a sovereign country? Would all of you men ready to go and fight WWIII, I do not think so; why support regimes whose policies are unacceptable to you?
@mariavontheresa – I know you are none to keen on fact checks, however you may find your overview contains some fundamental flaws:
https://www.factcheck.org/2024/02/unraveling-misinformation-about-bipartisan-immigration-bill/
HR2 was superseded by the bi-partisan Immigration Bill, constructively negotiated by both sides of the aisle (again, Mr. Lankford is a pretty staunch Republican and proved more than capable to land significant concessions). There is obviously an issue that needs to be addressed. It appears you are in “let it fester, until…” camp. As opposed to trying to do address the situation. Letting “perfect” get in the way of “good”.
Re allowing in terrorists… This is the reason we Hungarians receive slightly different treatment than the rest of the EU:

Mr. Lankford is one Republican. The Housed passed HR2 unanimously by Republicans. The House represents the people. One nitwit republican has no right to agree to a proposed legislation without consulting with either the Republican Senate or house members.
