British historical series shot in Hungary
Weekly American trade entertainment magazine Variety recently reported that the British historical drama series Jamestown’s three seasons were shot in Hungary.
According to origo.hu, the British historical drama series, which is about the first American settlers in 1620 in Virginia, was filmed in several locations in Hungary. The production of the series was brought to Central Europe because of the cheaper labor and reduced taxed rates, and producers built a whole town to shoot the series.
The sets of the series are not located in a studio but at outdoor locations which were designed to be in use for years. The second series of Jamestown was shot in February and the third season’s shooting was finished recently.
Besides series, several Hollywood productions were shot in Hungary.
- Evita was shot in 1996 in several locations of Budapest, for example, the surgery scene at the Hospital in the Rock. Evita’s part was played by American singer and pop icon Madonna, and this was her first time when she visited Hungary.
- 2015 American action comedy film entitled as Spy features several locations of the Hungarian capital and Lake Balaton
American action thriller film A Good Day to Die Hard in 2013 was also shot in Hungary. American actor Bruce Willis also met with István Tarlós, Mayor of Budapest
- Steven Spielberg’s 2005 movie Munich features scenes shot on Margareth Island
- Action fantasy film Hercules’ main character Dwayne Johnson spent six months in Budapest while shooting the movie
