Sensational performance
The final featured five teams: the United States, Jamaica, Hungary, Sri Lanka, and host nation China. Enyingi initiated the race for Hungary, positioning the team in third place by the first baton exchange. Wahl faced stiff competition, momentarily dropping to fourth as China surged ahead. Kovács, running the third leg, maintained composure and strategically positioned himself to reclaim third place. Anchoring the team, Molnár exhibited exceptional speed, overtaking the Chinese runner and securing the bronze medal for Hungary, Index writes.
Previous national record broken
The United States dominated the race, finishing first with a time of 3:03.13 minutes, followed by Jamaica in second place at 3:05.05 minutes. Hungary’s bronze medal finish not only marked a significant milestone but also shattered the previous national record by two and a half seconds, surpassing the 2023 mark of 3:08.58 minutes.
This accomplishment adds to Hungary’s illustrious history in indoor athletics, being the sixth medal at the World Indoor Championships and the first since 2018, when shot putter Anita Márton secured gold in Birmingham, Index writes.
Attila Molnár’s anchor leg was particularly noteworthy; he completed his 400 meters in 44.72 seconds—the fastest split among all competitors in the final. His recent triumph as the European indoor champion further highlights his exceptional form this season.
