Budapest voted among the world’s most scenic road trip desinations
Hungary and its capital, Budapest, regularly feature prominently in better and better lists. This time, DiscoverCars.com has ranked the world’s top destinations for road trips, and Budapest is one of them.
Budapest among the best road trip destination
DiscoverCars.com has gathered more than 250,000 reviews to rank the world’s best road trip destinations, TimeOut reports.
Hobart, at the foot of Mount Wellington in Australia, came top with a 9.25 rating. The reason for its popularity is that many people like to climb to the top of the mountain, part of which can be reached by car.
Funchal, on the island of Madeira, came second, with easy access to the centuries-old Laurisilva Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The last place on the podium went to the island of Kefalonia in Greece, where the port and the Cave of Melissani are popular with drivers, according to the list.
Budapest also made it into the top ten, with visitors giving the capital an average score of 8.81.
The city’s Art Nouveau architecture is highlighted in the list, as well as the roads and caves of the Buda Hills. They also recommend Tata, including the shores of the Lake Öreg (Öreg-tó) and the area around the castle.
“The capital of Hungary is in 10th place in our list – 820 happy visitors rated the city 8.81. Gorgeous Budapest is well known for its art nouveau architecture. If you drive out towards the Buda side of the city, on the western bank of the Danube, you will find yourself in the Buda Hills. Adventurous souls might like to explore the caves and tunnels in the hills with the help of a guide.
Or you might like to drive to Tata, just an hour from the capital – this picturesque town has a 14th-century castle, and sits on the shores of Öreg Lake. You can go out on the lake by boat, or enjoy the 7km walk around the tranquil park, with a view of distant mountains,” DiscoverCars writes about Budapest.
