Budapest Assembly fails to vote on Pride march support and right of assembly proposals

The Budapest metropolitan assembly fell short of the votes required to include proposals submitted in connection with supporting the Pride march and the protection of the right of assembly on its agenda on Wednesday.
Of the 16 councillors who voted on the matter, 15 from the Fidesz-Christian Democrats, the Democratic Coalition (DK), the satirical Two-Tailed Dog Party (MKKP), and Párbeszéd-Greens voted to include the proposals submitted by MKKP and Párbeszéd on the agenda. Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony abstained, while the 14 councillors of the Socialist Party, the Podmaniczky Movement and the Tisza Party did not vote.
In a debate, MKKP councillor Krisztina Baranyi, the mayor of the 9th district, called for “the toughest possible resistance” in connection with the ban on the Pride march.
