Budapest Is The Second Cheapest Capital

Budapest

The additional 6,5% reducing of natural gas price in April made the mean costs of natural gas in Budapest the second cheapest from the 23 capitals examined by Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH)-told the office . Natural gas is only cheaper in Bucharest.

MEKH is publishing the comparison of Hungarian and international energy costs for a year now, the change of electricity and natural gas end user prices from 23 countries is updated every month on its website.

For the sake of the costs’ more accurate comparison, the office compares how the prices burden the consumers. It examines how much is spent from the salary of an average Hungarian family with two money earners on electricity and natural gas.

Budapest was 2nd in 2013 July from the 23 compared countries; the overhead prices were only higher in Bucharest. In December, after the second cutting of overheads (rezsicsökkentés), Hungary was in a significantly better position. In April, the Hungarian capital was ahead of Bratislava, Prague, Warsaw, Lisboan and Bucharest concerning the costs of electricity and natural gas (same quantity).

The analysis is based on the data of the included countries’ suppliers and authorities. Beside the end user price the smaller parts of the costs are examined, such as energy price, network price, energy tax and VAT. The examined consumers are average consumers form their cities.

The aim of MEKH is to create an international end user energy price comparison by collecting data with similar methods- says the office in its press release.
